LUBBOCK, TX -- Police, Firefighters and EMS responded to a deadly traffic accident at 98th Street and Knoxville Avenue. The call came in just before 10:30 Wednesday morning.

Police said a passenger car was going east, veered and hit a reinforced fence. The front-seat passenger Eduviges Armando Payan, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver Joseph Sneed, 32, and back seat passenger Joey Gonzales, 24, were taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Payan and Gonzales were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Sgt. Robert Hook said it’s possible the crash happened because of a medical issue with the driver.
