The driver of the second vehicle, David Harder, 33, of Brownfield, was not injured. Harder's 5-year-old son was taken to Brownfield Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.
Harder was traveling westbound. Schmidt, in a seperate vehicle, was traveling eastbound when they collided head-on.
The investigation showed the left front wheel came off Schmidt's truck. As a result, DPS said Schmidt was unable to control the vehicle, forcing the truck into oncoming traffic.
