PLAINVIEW, TX - The Texas Department of Public Safety said a crash along Interstate 27 Monday morning near Plainview was fatal. A photojournalist observed a tanker truck overturned along the roadway near exit 49b.
On Monday afternoon, DPS provided new details and said the crash happened at approximately 6:50 a.m. DPS identified the driver as Jerry Dean Heggestad, 48, of Hereford.
“A truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling south bound on I-27 just south of US 70 when it went off into the center median,” DPS said. “The driver over-corrected and the vehicle overturned into the center median.”
“The driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene,” DPS said.
Previously, the northbound lanes of I-27 were closed. At the time of this report, crews were still working to clean up spilled diesel fuel and remove the semi from the center median.
