Fire Displaces Families at Village West Apartments

LUBBOCK, TX - Just after 6:00 p.m. a fire was reported at the Village West Apartments at 54th Street and Bangor Avenue.

Smoke is visible and our crews on scene reported seeing residents outside the apartment complex.

The Lubbock Fire Department is on the scene.

There are no reported injuries. Cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

UPDATE:

Travis Allen told EverythingLubbock.com the fire started after a stove was left on while his family was at the park.

The Red Cross is finding temporary housing for the families in four units that had to be evacuated, at least for the night.

"The damage is bad enough to where we can't stay here for about a week. And they said they're going to take care of us, help us out, do everything they can," Allen said, "[They] gave us some blankets so we don't have to smell like smoke when we go to sleep."
