LUBBOCK, TX - Heavy rains forced the closure of roads in Mackenzie Park on Monday morning.
The National Weather Service office in Lubbock issued a flash flood watch.
It said, “Soaking rainfall overnight through this morning across the South Plains and Rolling Plains has resulted in widespread one to two inch amounts.”
Isolated rainfall amounts were up to three inches, the NWS said. And more rain is on the way Monday with further rain chances all week.
The NWS also said, “Additional rainfall will be possible through the day [Monday] into Tuesday Morning and the ground will already be saturated by previous rainfall.”
The City of Lubbock said there is no estimate to reopen the park roads at this time.
“Right now East Broadway is also blocked in both directions at the Mackenzie Park entrance,” a spokesman for the city said.
