MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX and LUBBOCK, TX -- A former Texas Tech University Baseball player has died after a drowning accident north of Conroe on Friday. Elliot Richoux played one season for the Red Raiders in 2013 after a season at Howard College.

According to the Montgomery County Police Report, the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Patrol and North Montgomery County Fire Department responded to a drowning on Treasure Island Drive in Walden on Lake Conroe around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. They learned 21-year-old Elliot Paul Richoux of Walden dove off the dock into approximately 5 feet of water.

North Montgomery County Fire Department divers went into the water and located the victim within about 10 minutes. Richoux was then loaded on the fire boat with CPR in progress but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack pronounced him dead and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for an autopsy.

Richoux graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2011, where he was a star baseball player. He went on to play for Howard College before attending Texas Tech, where he continued his baseball career and was a business management major. Richoux would have turned 22 on July 20.

On Saturday, Texas Tech University released a statement on the passing of Richoux:

“The Texas Tech baseball program is saddened to learn of the death of former Red Raider baseball student-athlete Elliot Richoux, who passed away Friday in Montgomery Country, just over 10 miles from his hometown of The Woodlands, Texas. Richoux was 21.

"We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news involving Elliot," head coach Tim Tadlock said. "We want to offer our condolences to his mother, Deborah, and father, David. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time."

Richoux played one season with the Red Raiders in 2013 after an All-American campaign at Howard College in 2012 where he played with several Red Raider teammates and also for current Tech assistant coach/recruiting coordinator J-Bob Thomas.”
