HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX - A Hockley County teenager is behind bars charged with the murder of his father Saturday evening.
The crime occurred in the 6800 block of Nevada Road, near Anton.
Payden Shaine Allen, 18, is charged with one count of murder and is being held at the Hockley County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Sheriff Ray Scifres confirmed to EverythingLubbock.com Sunday evening the victim and suspect are father and son.
Scifres said the body of victim, Brandon Allen, 47, has been scheduled for Tuesday.
County officials told EverythingLubbock.com that the next steps in the investigation are for officers to look for shell casings to further the investigation. And they will have more updated information hopefully by Wednesday.
Our reporter talked to many residents and neighbors of Anton who said things like that do not happen in their town.
"I honestly haven't heard much but Facebook posts, it's a pretty shocking thing," Anton resident Jesus Gonzalez said. "You don't really hear stuff happen like this in a small town."
Below is the news release issued the Hockley County Sheriff's Office concerning this crime:
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, at approximately 8:30 PM, Hockley County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 6800 block of Nevada Road in reference to a deceased individual. Deputies were notified by neighbors that Brandon Allen, 47, was found deceased in the residence. Based on the observations of deputies, supervisors and Sheriff Ray Scifres were contacted and informed of the incident. The 286th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers were notified and assisted in a homicide investigation at the request of the Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation it was discovered Mr. Allen died of an apparent gunshot wound. Based on information collected during the investigation, Payden Shaine Allen, 18, was identified as a suspect in the incident. During the early morning hours of June 11, 2017, Payden Allen was located by authorities in Lubbock and interviewed by Texas Rangers. Allen was later taken into custody in Lubbock for Murder based on a warrant that was obtained by Hockley County authorities.
Sheriff Scifres stated, “We grieve for the family and friends of those involved in this tragedy and offer our continued prayers and support. Due to the cooperation of the multiple agencies, an arrest was made of the individual believed to be responsible for this tragedy within hours of the incident.”
Allen was later booked into the Hockley County Jail and his bond is set at $250,000. The case is still ongoing and under investigation.
