LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (NEWS RELEASE) - Lubbock County small business owner Jason Corley declared his candidacy today for Lubbock County Commissioner, Precinct Two. Corley will hold a campaign kick-off rally in his hometown of Slaton on Saturday, September 9, 4:30 p.m., at the County Park located at 705 W. Garza St in Slaton, TX.
Jason Corley is a native of Lubbock County, graduated from Lubbock-Cooper High School and West Texas A&M University and owns several successful small businesses in Lubbock County. Jason is also a member of the NFIB and the Slaton Chamber of Commerce. Corley is married to Rachel Rakes Corley. The Corley's have two children. Corley volunteers with the Slaton Soccer Association and Slaton Little League. Jason and his family are members of First Baptist Church in Slaton.
"Taxpayers in Lubbock County are desperate for tax reform and tax transparency," said Corley. "Our County Commissioners don't need to be voting themselves pay raises while also spending our money flying to Austin and staying at the best hotels. It is telling that at recent public hearings, very few - if anyone - came to the Commissioner's public hearings on the county's proposed tax rate. This tells me taxpayers have effectively given up on trying influence their Commissioners."
Lubbock County Commissioner Two serves Southeast Lubbock County, including the South and East portions of the City of Lubbock. The cities of Slaton, Ransom Canyon, and the communities of Acuff and Buffalo Springs Lake are also included. The Republican Primary will be held March 6, 2018, and the General Election will be held on November 6, 2018.
