LUBBOCK, TX -- Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores have made a request with the Lubbock City Council to rezone the southwest corner of I-27 and Regis Street, near Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, in order to develop a truck stop there.
The request asks to rezone an area of unoccupied land on I-27 from residential to an interstate industrial zone.
According to Thursday's city council agenda, there are several commercial uses near the 16.6-acre property where Love's wants to develop. According to the agenda, the request is consistent with city policies that recommend that the I-27 corridor be used for industrial purposes.
The request has already been approved by the city's planning and zoning commission, but will still need to go before council members on Thursday.
Love's is a chain of travel stops that combine the services of a gas station, convenience store and a truck stop all in one location.
Their competitor, Flying J, is another travel stop in Lubbock, located more than three miles from where Love's intends to develop.
