LPD: Two Arrested Following Vehicle Chase Early Sunday Morning

LUBBOCK, TX - Two people were arrested following a vehicle chase early Sunday morning across Central Lubbock.

According to Lubbock Police, an officer heard gunshots in the area of the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Avenue V around 1:15 a.m.

The officer then attempted to stop a Chevrolet SUV believed to be connected to the shots fired.

The driver of the SUV refused to stop at which point the vehicle chase began.

LPD said the SUV struck another vehicle near Mac Davis Lane and University Avenue.

The individual inside the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

The suspect vehicle then drove on the Texas Tech University campus, down the Drive of Champions and then onto the eastbound lanes of the Marsha Sharp Freeway.

Police said the suspect vehicle stalled out for a bit on the freeway at which point officers attempted to perform a felony stop on the vehicle.

The driver was able to restart the vehicle and again fled from officers down the Marsha Sharp Freeway.

The vehicle exited at Avenue Q and pulled into the Burger King parking lot where it finally stopped.

The driver and the passenger were then taken into custody.

Police identified the driver as Ali Lara, 24 and the passenger as Jesus Altamirano, 19.

Current records show they live in the Dallas area. It is unclear if either actually live in Lubbock, police said.

Lara is charged with driving while intoxicated and discharging a firearm in a municipality.

Altamirano is charged with public intoxication and discharging a firearm in a municipality.

Officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from the SUV.
