LUBBOCK, TX - A Lubbock County grand jury indicted Joe Angel Gomez, 74, of Lubbock for aggravated sexual assault of the elderly or disabled.
Court records said a family member walked in on Gomez while he was touching his victim inappropriately. The victim was described as a disabled adult who had the mental age of a 3-year-old and in need of “constant care.”
According to court records Gomez was given the choice of reporting himself to the Lubbock Police Department or someone else would. He chose to go to the police station and report it himself.
Court records said the family member who walked in on Gomez talked to police. The family member said Gomez attempted to do more than just touch the victim.
Gomez told police he was acting out of a drunken stupor. He was the subject of an arrest warrant in early October. His bond was set at $50,000 and jail records indicated he posted bond to be released on October 7.
A trial date was not yet set.
