LUBBOCK, TX (PRESS RELEASE) -- Carolyn Simpson, Lubbock Area United Way Success by 6 Director, was awarded a Child Safety Award at the 4th Annual J.C. Montgomery Child Safety Awards on Friday August 22. The event was held in the Lieutenant Governor’s Reception Room at the Texas State Capitol.

The Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities hosted the event and presented the award to eight standout individuals and organizations who had demonstrated tremendous leadership in the field of safety. The award was designed to recognize the importance of child safety, and highlight individuals/organizations in Texas working tirelessly to keep children safe.

Carolyn Simpson was presented the award in recognition of her work with the South Plains Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention and the GO BLUE for Lubbock’s Children event held on April 4, 2014.

Simpson's work on the GO BLUE Campaign not only encouraged people to wear blue on April 4 to demonstrate a community commitment against child abuse, but also included a host of educational events for the community. Her work resulted in the development of over 140 individual teams, representing over 40,000 individuals in the fight for child safety. She brought key stakeholders together, including law enforcement, prosecutors and healthcare providers to join hands on child safety issues, including initiating the first Kickoff Breakfast for Child Abuse Awareness Month. The breakfast brought legislators, city and county dignitaries together in a comprehensive effort to shine the light on child abuse and to adopt evidenced based practices to tackle it.
