Mackenzie Masonic Lodge #1327 Hosting Scholarship and Community Builder Award Program Sunday

LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) - On Sunday, April 23rd, 2017, Mackenzie Masonic Lodge of Lubbock will host a Scholarship and Community Builder Award Program. The event will begin at 3 p.m. in the great hall of the Scottish Rite Building, located at 1101 70th Street. There is no charge to attend, and the event is open to the public and the media. Light refreshments will be served.

This year's event will feature Tom Martin, former Lubbock mayor, as master of ceremonies. Martin served in that position from 2008 to 2012, and previously served as a member of the Lubbock City Council and police chief of San Marcos and Grapevine.

Mackenzie Masonic Lodge will award six $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors in recognition of their academic and social achievements. These six students were chosen out of many qualified applicants from the Lubbock area, and represent Shallowater, Frenship, and Monterey High Schools, and the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders.

Also, the 2017 Community Builder Award for Mackenzie Masonic Lodge will be presented to Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees President Melissa Collier. The Community Builder Award may be given annually by each lodge to recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community, and followed the same precepts, ideals, and standards that have been established for Masonic behavior.

Mackenzie Masonic Lodge #1327 was established in Lubbock in 1950, and is part of the Grand Lodge of Texas. Mackenzie Masonic Lodge meets for dinner at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Scottish Rite Building, located at 1101 70th Street.
