LUBBOCK, TX -- Mayor Glen Robertson confirmed for that he will have an official announcement Thursday concerning his effort to build a coalition of support for expanding Interstate 27.

Robertson said, “I’ve got a meeting with numerous mayors showing up in Lubbock next week. I feel very optimistic the timing is right to extend Interstate 27.”

Robertson said the first step is for him and his fellow West Texas mayors to convince TxDOT to conduct a feasibility study.

“I’d like them to do a study for all options, even extending it to go north of Amarillo,” Robertson said.

As for a southern extension, one idea would be to connect Interstate 27 with Midland, but Robertson thinks were will be other perfectly good options as well.

“I-27 should be extended,” Robertson said. “That’s a long process. We’re talking 20 to 50 years. But what I’m doing Monday is the first step.”

Look for an update Thursday when Robertson issues his official statement.
