MULESHOE, TX -- The Muleshoe Area Memorial Center is not in danger of closing according to an article last week in the Muleshoe Journal. The Journal said MAMC Administrator David Burke spoke during a regular meeting of the Muleshoe Area Hospital District’s board of directors.

Burke was responding to rumors that the hospital was in financial trouble by saying, “We seem to be pretty stable,” according to the Journal.

The article said even with the probable Medicare reimbursement problems faced by hospitals across the nation, Muleshoe’s hospital should be able to keep its doors open.

A recent report from Bloomberg said U.S. hospitals have dismissed 5,000 employees since June 2013. At the same time multiple West Texas hospitals say budget cuts are related to a decrease in reimbursements.
