Murder Suspect in South Lubbock Shooting Now in Custody

Prince Tariq Richards, 19, was arrested around 8 p.m. Wednesday for the first-degree murder of Peter Caballero, 20.

He was arrested without incident near 45th Street and Elgin Avenue.

On Monday morning, LPD said Caballero "was on foot chasing a suspect in a blue passenger car who had reportedly just robbed his friend in the area of 2200 99th Street.”

Multiple shots were fired toward Caballero and another friend, according to LPD. Caballero was hit and later died at a local hospital.

Prince Richards who had an outstanding arrest warrant for murder is now in custody.

The Lubbock Police Department  Special Operations Unit, Lubbock County Sheriff's Office Street Crimes Unit, Lubbock County Sheriffs Office Warrants Division, and the United States Marshals Service North Texas Fugitive Task Force Team Foxtrot worked together to take  Richards into custody tonight just before 8 p.m.

He was arrested in the area of 45th Street and Elgin Avenue without incident.
