Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty by Reason for Insanity

LUBBOCK, TX - Jestin Hooker pleaded not guilty for murder by reason of insanity Tuesday afternoon.

Hooker was determined to be insane at the time of the murder on July 23, 2014, when he killed lawyer Steve Wallace.

A Wallace family member read a statement in court which said, "I will not let you break me, while I am an advocate for mental health, you should be held responsible for what you did," when referring to Hooker.

Hooker will be transferred to a maximum security mental facility for evaluation and then committed to a facility in the Texas Department of Health Services for a period of one year.

After one year he will be reevaluated and the decision to renew his stay at the facility will be made. This evaluation is done on a year by year basis.
