LUBBOCK, TX -- After buying Lubbock-based United Supermarkets last September, grocery chain Albertson's announced another acquisition on Thursday. Safeway - the second-largest grocery chain in the country - was bought by Albertson's - the fifth-largest grocery chain - in a $9 billion dollar deal.
Eddie Owens, a representative for United, said "Lubbock will be feeling absolutely no local impact from this deal with Albertson's and Safeway."
