MULESHOE, TX -- Officials captured a Roosevelt County inmate near Muleshoe after he escaped Wednesday and led officers across state lines into Bailey and Lamb Counties.

Senovio Mendoza, Junior, 32, and another inmate were doing grounds keeping at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds under the supervision of a county employee. While working, Mendoza hit the county employee with a pickaxe.

Police say he then tied the employee’s hands and feet together, stole keys to a vehicle and fled.

Mendoza then traveled on State Road 202 leading officers on a chase to Muleshoe and eventually Sudan. Eventually they caught him, and as of Thursday he remained jailed in Texas.
