One Transported To UMC in Overnight Shooting Downtown Lubbock

Around 12:15 am Thursday, January 31st Lubbock Police say they responded to a shooting in downtown Lubbock. The victim told police he had been shot twice. He was found in front of Kong'a nightclub near 18th and Texas. Police say he had one gunshot wound in his knee, and another in his chest or shoulder. He was rushed to UMC with serious, non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, Heriberto Gayton, Jr. of New Mexico was found near the scene. He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault with a deadly weapon. Officials say the two men were in an argument, and it continued escalating. These investigations are still ongoing.
