Student Found Dead, No Foul Play Suspected, at O.L. Slaton Middle School

LUBBOCK, TX - Lubbock Police and EMS were called to the report of an unresponsive student at O.L. Slaton Middle School, 1602 32nd Street, at about 12:15 Tuesday afternoon. 

An 8th grade girl was pronounced dead by first responders.  No foul play was suspected. 

Lubbock ISD notified parents of the other students by automated phone system shortly after the incident. LISD did not use the word suicide and said there would need to be an investigation before a final determination would be made.

Crisis counselors will be made available to other students at the school.  

Lubbock ISD released the following statement about 3:40 p.m.

Shortly after noon today, a student was found unresponsive behind the auditorium curtains at O L Slaton Middle School. EMS responded and the student could not be revived. No foul play was involved and a full police investigation is underway.

Parents were notified about 3 p.m. and were asked to continue normal home and school routines for their children, as that is helpful for your child as they cope with this difficult situation. Students were notified at the end of the day and counselors have been available today and will be at the school the remainder of the week.
