LUBBOCK, TX - Lubbock Police said Guadalupe Vargas, 31, was arrested after a chase Friday morning that ended with a vehicle crash.
Police said Vargas suffered minor injuries. An officer was investigating a report of vehicle burglaries when Vargas was spotted in the 200 block of Grover Avenue. He was driving a jeep slowly in a neighborhood, and police said, “It appeared suspicious.”
When the officer tried to pull Vargas over, the chase began. Vargas crashed at the corner of 1st Place and Chicago Avenue.
Police said, “Right now it is unclear if Vargas is tied to any of the vehicle burglaries.”
However, he had previous warrants for his arrest, and he was charged with evading.

This morning the Lubbock Police Department received multiple reports of vehicle burglaries in the approximate area between west 19th Street to Erksine Street and from Chicago Avenue to Milwaukee.
Around 8:20 this morning, an officer was speaking with a victim of an attempted vehicle burglary in the 200 block of Grover Avenue. The officer was advised that earlier a jeep was slowly driving by the area and it appeared suspicious.
While still in the area, the officer spotted the vehicle driving by. Due to several vehicle burglaries occurring overnight, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver refused to stop and fled from the officer. A pursuit was initiated in the area of 4th Street and Frankford Avenue. A short time later the suspect vehicle left the roadway at the corner of 1st Place and Chicago Avenue and struck a tree. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
After a short foot pursuit, the suspect, 31-year-old Guadalupe Vargas, was taken into custody. He was transported to UMC to be cleared for minor injuries. He will then be booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for an outstanding probation warrant, a parole warrant, and another outstanding warrant. He will also be charged with evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
Right now it is unclear if Vargas is tied to any of the vehicle burglaries.
Per policy, Accident Investigators were called to the scene to investigate due to the suspect vehicle crashing and the suspect sustaining minor injuries.
