LUBBOCK, TX -- The National Weather Service said the greater Lubbock area received generally 1 to 3 inches Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. A reporting station at the Plainview water treatment plant recorded 2.54 inches as a “storm total” the NWS said.

Officially Lubbock recorded 0.63 inches Saturday night at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. On Sunday Lubbock officially recorded another 0.21 on Sunday afternoon. The year-to-date total was 6.97 as of Sunday afternoon while normal for this time of year would be 6.99.

However Lubbock started 2014 more than 30 inches below normal since the start of the drought in October 2010.

The most recent Drought Monitor does not yet include the Saturday/Sunday rainfall. But rains last week did relieve most of Lubbock County from exceptional drought – the worst category – to severe drought – the third worst category.
