Salazar Faces Long List of Charges After Central Lubbock Hostage Situation

LUBBOCK, TX -- Officials said Friday that Ruben O’neil Salazar, 21, was the man arrested Thursday night after a hostage situation in Central Lubbock. Salazar’s jail booking sheet listed 11 charges against him including aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault on a public servant.

Police received a Crime Line tip on Thursday concerning two convenience store robberies. When officers located Salazar there was an exchange of gunfire between him and police. Police said he then took a woman hostage in a home in the 1500 block of 45th Street.

Police said, “Negotiators were able to convince him to come out and give himself up peacefully so that no further harm would come to anybody.”

Salazar was held Friday in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling more than $350,000.00. In addition to the charges related to Thursday night, there was also an outstanding warrant for his arrest on a burglary charge.
