LUBBOCK, TX -- Texas Tech University will be recognized on Friday for their military-friendly campus and the work the school does to integrate veterans back into the educational environment.

Commander John Murdock of the South Plains Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will be on hand to award Texas Tech as a Purple Heart University, as well as several individuals who work with local military members attending Tech.

David Abercia, executive associate in the Office of the Senior Vice President and Vice Provost, said the award makes Tech one of only a few schools in the country with the designation. Abercia said Tech earned the award through their military-friendly campus, their assistance with the transition from service to education for veterans, and the benefits that veterans receive at Tech.

In November, Jones AT&T Stadium was the location of the largest gathering of Purple Heart awardees on American soil.
