LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) -- Growing and maintaining top-flight turf will be in the spotlight on July 21 as Texas Tech University hosts a Turfgrass Field Day at the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Quaker Research Farm.
Registration for the half-day program begins at 7 a.m., and the presentations begin about an hour later. The Quaker Research Farm is located at 200 N. Quaker Ave. and is a 130-acre farm operated by Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
Attendance for the event is free, and lunch will be provided for participants.
The Turfgrass Field Day typically draws green industry professionals such as landscapers and golf course superintendents, said program officials. However, homeowners who are interested in learning how to maintain a healthy lawn are encouraged to attend.
The event is sponsored by Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Presentations are scheduled on golf and athletic turf including wetting agent demonstration, plant growth regulators, pre-emerge herbicide, sodium removal from soils, irrigation audit demonstration and carbon sequestration.
Separately, there will be presentations on commercial and residential lawn care including buffalograss herbicide tolerance, introduction to drip system for turf, native plants for landscape, calibration demonstrations, irrigation audit demonstration and general management practices.
