Texas Tech Participates In National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week

LUBBOCK, TX (PRESS RELEASE) - The following is a press release from Texas Tech University: 

Hosted by Student Union & Activities, events throughout the week expose students to the importance of safe and responsible alcohol use.
 
Student Union & Activities is hosting the National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week from Oct. 23 to Oct. 28. Throughout the week, events including training, film screenings and celebrations, will raise awareness of alcohol-related issues on college campuses.
 
The focus this year is helping students better understand alcohol abuse, impaired driving and how to make healthier decisions regarding alcohol.
 
“It’s my hope that, through National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, students begin to understand how alcohol can and does affect them,” said Kelsey Jackson, unit coordinator of Student Union & Activities. “This week is a great opportunity to bring together various Texas Tech University departments and community organizations to showcase resources available to students and bring the campus community together through alcohol-free programming.”
 
The week begins with the National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week kick-off from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 23) at the gazebo near the Student Union Building (SUB).
 
Some of the events throughout the week include:
·         Plays on Tap: One-Act Plays from the School of Theatre & Dance, 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 24) in the Escondido Theatre of the SUB
·         Generation Found & discussion, 6 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 25) in the Escondido Theatre of the SUB
·         Arrive Alive Tour, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 26) outside the northwest corner of the SUB
·         Celebration of Recovery, 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 26) at the Serenity Center
·         Black Out Trivia Night, 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 26) in the Ballroom of the SUB
·         Pack the SUB: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma Football Watch Party, Saturday (Oct. 28) in the Courtyard of the SUB

The week is presented in collaboration with the Student Activities Board, the Risk Intervention and Safety (RISE) office, the Center for Campus Life, the Association for Students About Service, the School of Theatre & Dance, the Center for Collegiate Recovery Communities, Recreational Sports, the Student Government Association and the Residence Halls Association.
