The Art of Freedom Art Sale and Auction Scheduled for November 3

LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) - The first annual Art of Freedom Art Sale and Auction will be held at Trinity Church in Lubbock, Texas on November 3, 2017. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

All monies raised benefit OneVo!ceHome, a nonprofit based in Lubbock working diligently to open a desperately needed long-term residential  shelter for underage girls rescued from sex trafficking.

The Art of Freedom will feature a wide array of artistic styles, including paintings, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, photography, and woodwork. Pieces range in price from $20 to $2,000+. Numerous artists, both locally and nationally recognized, have graciously donated fabulous works, including fine art that any collector would be proud to display. As well, local art students have contributed so a fun youth art section will be created.

Admission is free, though donations to OneVoiceHome are encouraged. Guests will be entertained by the sounds of the harp and classical guitar from musician, Greg Goodnight, and light refreshments will be served.

The Art of Freedom is the brainchild of Garland Spore, a local high school senior and daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Scott and Tracee Spore. According to Tracee, “When Garland discovered that young girls her age were being exploited, she realized she had two choices: remain silent and uninvolved, or do something. Garland chose to act to try and change the world around her. Her vision has now grown into this art sale and auction.”

Sex trafficking exists in the Hub City. In 2016, Texas ranked second in the country for the highest number of reported cases of human trafficking. So far in 2017 in Lubbock, Voice of Hope, also known as the Rape Crisis Center, has reported 49 human trafficking victims, with 20 being children. With approximately 79,000 minor and youth victims in Texas at any given time and only about 30 residential beds to treat victims, currently <1% of victims are receiving needed long-term care.
