LUBBOCK, TX -- The Texas Tech IT Division said late last week that local computer users and businesses should “be on guard” after reports that Russian criminal hacked an estimated 1.2 billion usernames and passwords, including more than 500 million email addresses.

Pretty much everyone worldwide on the internet is at risk.  However, Texas Tech’s IT Division said people who have the same username and password across multiple websites are at high risk.

TTU IT said, “Do not reuse passwords especially for your main email, banking, credit card, and investments accounts.”

TTU IT also said, “Before you make any password changes, ensure that your system is not infected with a virus and has the most up-to-date operating system.”
