The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of the five-turbine, 11.5-megawatt wind farm, which will generate more than 60 percent of the electricity needed yearly by the Pantex Plant.
Pantex is the primary facility for the assembly, disassembly and maintenance of nuclear weapons.
Texas Tech owns 6,000 acres adjacent to the Pantex Plant, and the wind turbines are on Tech’s property. As part of the lease Texas Tech gets access to the wind production data to help with its ongoing wind energy research.
