United Way Announces 2014 Campaign Leadership Team

LUBBOCK, TX (PRESS RELEASE) -- United Way Campaign Chairman Byrnie Bass has recruited his leadership team for the 2014 Annual Campaign.  Last year the United Way campaign raised $5.7 million to support its 23 Community Partners.  Bass and his leadership team of 11 Vice Chairs will work together to recruit the more than 400 other volunteers needed to assist in the community-wide fund-raising effort.

The 2014 Campaign Vice Chairs and their respective divisions are as follows:

David Abercia, Texas Tech University - State Employee Charitable Campaign

Vickie Bennett, FirstBank & Trust - Marketing

Sherolyn Castleman, Lone Star State Bank - Special Gifts

Bob Craig, Craig Terrill Hale & Grantham - Professional

Amber Dean, Happy State Bank - Golf to Give Tournament

Travis Funk, Wells Fargo Advisors - Corporate

Jamie Gibson, Platinum Bank - Loaned Executive

Mark Heinrich, Lubbock County - Local Government

Brent Hoffman, Prosperity Bank - Development

Rob Hogue, United States Postal Service - Combined Federal Campaign

Douglas Sanford, Sanford & Tatum Insurance Agency - Leadership Giving

These campaign volunteers will work through November of this year to raise donations that will be invested in United Way’s 23 Community Partner agencies in 2015.

The 2014 Annual Campaign will officially launch at the Campaign Kick-Off Luncheon on August 28, 11:45 AM, at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Tickets are $25 a seat or $200 a table. Seating can be reserved now by contacting the United Way office at 806.747.2711.

The keynote speaker for this year’s Kick-Off Luncheon is Dr. Tererai Trent, a senior consultant with more than 18 years of international experience in professional program and policy evaluation. Dr. Trent’s inspirational story of growing up in poverty and her desire to give back to others has touched millions of people around the world. Her amazing ‘never give up’ attitude and firm belief that education is the main pathway out of poverty is an inspiration and a lesson in perseverance. Her humble eloquence and rich authenticity leave audiences with a lasting impression of what it means to overcome humble beginnings and to achieve one's dreams.

United Way’s 23 Community Partners work daily in the Lubbock community to assist people with needs such as affordable child care, crisis situations, character development, adult literacy, job training, and youth mentoring. The 2014 Annual Campaign will conclude at a luncheon on December 2nd.
