“The enthusiasm and attitude on the part of all of our Campaign volunteers I don’t think could be better,” Bass said, “Everyone is really excited about the prospects for this year’s Campaign.”
Dr. Tererai Trent captivated the audience with her inspirational story of growing up in poverty and the difficult barriers she encountered pursuing education. She highlighted the importance of education in improving lives.
“When you educate a person, you empower them and crush the vicious cycle of poverty,” said Dr. Trent. She stated she achieved her dream of receiving an education and encouraged those in the audience that their dreams are achievable too.
Money raised during the Annual Campaign is invested in the Lubbock area through United Way’s 23 Community Partners. These partners work year-round to address issues in the community by making positive changes in people’s lives.
Real Estate Division Chair Kendra Rieff of Keller Williams Realty, announced that area realtors had kicked off their campaign early and have raised $38,320 to date.
JumpStart Division Chair Tammi Wood of PrimeWest Mortgage, announced the results of six local businesses that ran their United Way workplace campaigns prior to the beginning of the campaign. Results for specific JumpStart companies are listed below:

A mid-campaign report meeting will take place in the Civic Center Banquet Hall on October 16 and the campaign will wrap up with a victory report meeting on December 2. There is no charge to attend either event. Seating can be reserved now by contacting the United Way office at 806.747.2711.
Lubbock Area United Way’s 23 Community Partners work daily in the Lubbock community to assist people with needs such as affordable child care, crisis situations, character development, adult literacy, job training, and youth mentoring.
