Companies are cashing in on the Great American Eclipse -- and consumers are all for it. Here are ways to celebrate the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse around the U.S.
Krispy Kreme will sell its first-ever chocolate glazed doughnut during the eclipse. The doughnut shop lists participating stores on its website. It will also sell the treats on Aug. 19 and 20 during special hours.
A brewery in the Jackson Hole valley area of western Wyoming, where the eclipse will be visible, rolled out an "Eclipse" beer and is hosting a party.
In the same area, Snake River Roasting Co. introduced eclipse coffee, and it's been "selling like mad," spokesperson Ruth Ann told CNNMoney.
Paper Optics, located in Tennessee, sells 3-D glasses. It's making special eyeglasses, especially for the eclipse (the only safe way to look at the sun is with eyewear that meets international safety standards).
Royal Caribbean is offering a "Total Eclipse Cruise," claiming it includes "the optimal spot at sea for guests to witness the total solar eclipse," a press release said. The ship will set sail Aug. 20 from Orlando, Florida. Ticket prices start at $2,422.
Oregon's Finest is a dispensary in Oregon – the only state in the path of totality that allows recreational marijuana use. It's selling a special strain of weed to mark the eclipse, which is caused by the moon covering the sun: moon puppies.
Organic Earthly Delights, an organic farm in Madras, Oregon, says it has room on the farm for those who didn't book their hotel in "the best place in Oregon to experience the 2017 solar eclipse" two years in advance. The 103 acres will be turned into a four-day Glamping event space Aug. 18-21.
Also in Oregon, Softstar Shoes is hoping to capitalize on the hype with a special edition eclipse moccasin. The company is located in the small town of Philomath, which is in the path of totality.
Chiquita is going bananas – with the "ultimate eclipse-themed (marketing) phenomenon." For "two glorious moments" before and after the moon fully blocks the sun, it will "turn the burning ball of gas in the center of our solar system into a giant banana," the company said.
Chiquita is also partnering with the comedy team at Funny or Die for a livestreamed event the morning of the eclipse. It kicks off at 9:15 am PT.
