BIG SPRING, TX - A family in Big Spring said Wednesday that the shooting death of Theron McVae, 19, was an accident. His brother, Gregory Leal, 22, was arrested for manslaughter.
The shooting happened near the intersection of 11th Street and Birdwell Lane.
“He was telling them, I can’t breathe no more. I can’t breathe no more.’ Then they sat there for 15 minutes and they kept telling me to get back! Get back!” said Theron’s mother, Gracie Leal.
“They loved each other,” Gracie Leal said. “It was an accident. I don’t want people to think he did it on purpose. That was an accident.”
According to yourbasin.com, Gregory Leal was able to post bond to be released from jail.
The Abilene Reporter-News said McVae’s body was sent to Lubbock for an autopsy.
