Clovis Man Wanted for Alleged Child Abuse

CLOVIS, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) - A Clovis man is wanted for multiple counts of alleged child abuse.

Jackie Lee Cubit, Jr., 31, is wanted for abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, Abuse of a child, a third-degree felony, and aggravated battery on a household member, a third-degree felony. 

On Friday, November 17, at about 8:46 a.m., Officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Chama Street in reference to a violent domestic situation. 

On arrival, officers say they contacted a 27-year-old woman and her 11-month-old daughter, who bleeding profusely from wounds she had received when Cubit allegedly threw a glass jar that contained a candle at the mother and child. 

Police say the candle hit the infant’s head, severely injuring the girl. 

The baby was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and was subsequently transported to a Lubbock area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. 

The child’s mother also received a head wound and was treated and released from PRMC. 

There was 6-month-old in a small crib in the living room when the violence occurred.

We are told Cubit fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Cubit is currently wanted by Texas law enforcement for Domestic Assault and Parole Violation.

Detectives of the Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit were activated and are investigating this incident.
