DPS Trooper Seizes $99,000 in Cocaine

AMARILLO, TX -- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Saturday on IH-40, yielding over three pounds of cocaine valued at over $99,000.

At approximately 3:01 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Amarillo in Potter County.

The occupants of the Fusion were identified as Anthony Roshawn Bens, 37, of Littlerock, Ark., and Vernard Ward, 53, of Washington, D.C. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered one bundle of cocaine in the trunk.

Bens and Ward were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from California to Littlerock, Ark.
