ODESSA, TX -- Ector County ISD officials said Mark Lampman was found dead after he was investigated for allegations of an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Lampman was a teacher and assistant girls golf coach who made regional news when he resigned Tuesday afternoon.

In a written statement the school district said, “Our ECISD family is deeply saddened by the events that unfolded.”

The statement also said “The remaining days and weeks of the school year will be very difficult at Permian High School. In an immediate response there will be crisis counselors available to all students and faculty members tomorrow [Thursday] and Friday.” quoted the Ector County Sheriff - saying the death was under investigation as a suicide.

“We have seen a number of very inappropriate and hateful posts to social media sites,” ECISD said. “Out of respect for the families involved in this tragedy, we are urging everyone to remove all angry messages from all accounts and refrain from posting any more. This type of dialogue is not helpful, nor is it healing.”

Since last summer, three other ECISD teachers have resigned or been placed on administrative leave amid investigations of an improper student-teacher relationship.

On Tuesday school officials said all district staff members go through online interactive training to set appropriate boundaries for teachers.

Lampman had been with the district for 17 years prior to his resignation.
