HOBBS, NM (NEWS RELEASE) - At approximately 7:15 pm on Tuesday, August 1, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in response to a requested welfare check for a driver who appeared to be driving under the influence. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the driver, identified as Raquel Hernandez (25), was contacted. Officers observed indications Hernandez may have been under the influence. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and the officer observed indication Hernandez was under the influence of narcotics or drugs.
Inside the vehicle, officers located a purse next to a five-year-old child seated in the back seat of the vehicle. Hernandez’s purse was later found to contain Marijuana, Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a switch blade. A half empty bottle of vodka was located on the floor board of the vehicle as well. It was discovered that Hernandez also had a warrant for her arrest through the Hobbs Magistrate Court for failure to appear.
Hernandez was arrested and transported to the Hobbs City Jail. She was charged with Driving under the Influence of Drugs (misdemeanor), Driver must be Licensed (petty misdemeanor), Expired Registration (petty misdemeanor), Resisting Evading or Obstructing an Officer (misdemeanor), Child Abuse and Neglect (4th degree felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (4th degree felony), Possession of Marijuana (misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor), Unlawful Carrying Switch Blades (misdemeanor), and Open Container (petty misdemeanor).
The child was released to the custody of the father who responded to the traffic stop.
