AMARILLO, TX – Amarillo police said Monday morning that burglary suspects fired a shot at a homeowner. Police said the homeowner woke up just after 3:00 am to the sound of an alarm when three men entered his garage. Police said the man chased the three out of his garage but did not catch them.

A moment later he heard a pick truck and ran after it. He caught up to the truck when it got stuck in some mud.

A police statement said, “The burglary victim caught up with the truck and was attempting to detain the driver when he heard a shot fired.”

“He discontinued his attempt to detain the driver.”

The three suspects ran away from the truck that was still stuck in the mud.

Police said, “Several APD units and the DPS helicopter were responding by this time, and an APD canine unit arrested the driver nearby.”

A second suspect was also arrested quickly, and eventually the third suspect was caught.

Genaro Hernan Hernandez, 20, was charged with burglary and organized crime. Gustavo Ferrusquilla, 20, was arrested for burglary, organized crime and aggravated assault.

The name of the third suspect was not released because he was not yet booked into the Randall County Jail at the time of the police department’s written statement.
