ABILENE, TX -- A Houston man has spent the week in Abilene searching for his homeless brother, William “Will” Higgins, 63.

“I hope to at least find him,” said Steve Higgins. “I’d like for him to know there is still a family out there for him.”

“We haven’t forgotten about him,” Higgins said. “So, if there are people out there that recognize my brother, if they would at least tell him his family is looking for him.”

Will Higgins grew up near Abilene in Baird before joining the military and serving in Vietnam.

Steve said after he returned, Will was not the same mentally. Will has been in the streets for about 10 years.

Steve began his search by visiting facilities like Mission Abilene and Love and Care Ministry.

“He’s not just a homeless man,” said Sheri Bennett with Mission Abilene. “He was a little boy one day. He had a mom. “I have a boy with a purple heart and I kept thinking ‘That could have been my son.’”

Anyone with information on William Higgins is asked to call Mission Abilene at (325) 232-8258.
