WICHITA FALLS, TX -- Police on Monday identified both the suspect and the officer involved in a deadly police shooting over the weekend in Wichita Falls.

Armando Noeh Aleman, 34, was shot and killed by police officer Scott Poole early Sunday morning.

Police said officer Poole was making routine parking lot checks when he found two rival gangs fighting.

Police said as the officer approached, Aleman took off running and a witness said he was carrying a gun.

Officials said Aleman, while running, threw a handgun into a ditch and continued to run away.

“Officer Poole caught up with the suspect at which time the suspect turned and pointed a second handgun at officer Poole,” said Officer Jeff Hughes with the Wichita Falls Police Department.

“Officer Poole then discharged his handgun striking the suspect one time.” Hughes said.  Aleman was then taken to United Regional where he was pronounced dead.

Aleman was previously charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and burglary of a habitation.
