San Angelo Man Accused of Shooting Fredericksburg Police Officer

SAN ANGELO, TX ( -- A San Angelo man, 31-year-old Robert A. Rendon, has been charged with three counts of attempted capital murder following a shooting incident with a Fredericksburg Police Officer.

According to Fredericksburg Police Chief, Steven Wetz, at 1:42 a.m. Saturday, a police officer conducted a routine traffic stop in the 1600 block of East Main Street in Fredericksburg, TX. As the officer, 29-year-old Bradley Durst, approached the vehicle, the driver fired multiple shots.

Wetz says Durst was shot in the neck and lower right abdomen. Durst was later transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he underwent surgery. According to Fredericksburg Police, Durst is in stable condition.

Rendon, the suspect, had fled the scene and it was not until around 4:00 a.m. Saturday, that Rendon wrecked his vehicle in Bexar County.

Rendon has been charged with three counts of capital murder, one charge of evading arrest, and is also facing four drug felony charges. Two of Rendon's charges are remanded without bond.
