WICHITA FALLS, TX -- Wichita County Sheriff David Duke said an intoxicated driver rammed her SUV into his patrol vehicle Sunday. Duke said officials were opening up a Farm to Market road after a grass fire when he and his officers received a call of a possible intoxicated driver.

Sheriff Duke said marked county patrol units approached, and the female driver tried to get away. He said she tried to jump out of her vehicle but didn't put it in park. So, her vehicle slammed into his SUV.

Duke did not know it at the time but there was a child in her SUV.

Speaking at the scene Duke said, “Now [my] Vehicle, had it not been there, [the suspect's] Vehicle would have gone down to this valley - this little ditch over here - and it probably would have rolled over.”

Her name was not released at the scene, but video showed officers taking the suspect into custody. Duke said she faces charges of DWI and endangering a child.

He also said the child was not injured.
