BIG SPRING, TX -- Two former Correctional Officers at Big Spring Correctional Center pleaded guilty after the investigation of an inmate suicide almost two years ago. Frederick Hernandez, 45, of Big Spring pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of making false statements; and Christopher Moore, 42, of Dallas pleaded guilty to one count of misprision of a felony.

Hernandez and Moore admitted they turned in false paperwork to indicate they had done safety checks every 30 minutes during their shifts. The paperwork said inmate counts had been done when actually they were not. Hernandez was the officer in charge but Moore admits he also knew the records were false.

Both will be sentenced at a later date. Hernandez faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in federal prison, and for Moore the maximum could be up to three years in prison.
