PALO DURO CANYON, TX, UPDATE 3/11/14 -- The park is still closed.

Officials say it was a camper's stove started the wildfire.

The wildfire is 70-percent contained. It has burned around 16 acres.

Officials are calling it a slow burn but they are concerned about the wind.

PALO DURO CANYON, TX, 3/10/14 -- The fire stretched about 9 acres, and officials say thankfully because of little wind, the fire burned slowly.

Fire officials were called to the scene around 5:30 this evening.

Danny Alexander with Randall County tells us they evacuated everyone they could find easily, but are still searching to make sure everyone is out because if the wind picks up, the fire will quickly spread.

He says the fire started near the Equestrian Trail, but it's deep into the trails, so they don't know a lot about the fire's size and scope right now.

Alexander says, "Fire crews are down there cutting fire lines right now. I don't even know if they can get water to it down there right now because it's in such tough terrain right now."

Firefighters from Randall County and Canyon are on the scene.

Alexander says it's been a few years since they've had to evacuate folks at this measure from the Canyon.

Officials say they're working to figure out exactly what started the fire.

It is not under control at this time and the Canyon is still closed to the public until further notice.
