LUBBOCK, TX -- State Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock resigned effective Thursday but “constituent services remain available” for the people of his district. Duncan is stepping down in order to take over as Chancellor of Texas Tech University. The Board of Regents named Duncan as their sole finalist on May 19, and he takes over from Kent Hance.

Governor Rick Perry will decide the special election date to replace Duncan. The governor will also decide if it should be handled as a special election or an emergency election – which changes the potential requirements for a runoff.
