Maurice Stanley a barber at Jerry's Barber Shop is one of the first to put his name in the hat saying he's running for this years upcoming election for City Council District 3.

"What happens at city hall does not stay at city hall... What happens at city hall affects every one of us," said Stanley.
"Now what I think i can bring to the city council that other people cannot bring...
I am can probably be the most accessible person on the city council."

Still several months from elections and he's ready to go with a plan-- if he's put into office.

"I have determined there are really 5 issues that drive the city...
The very first issue that I want to address is the maintenance budget, I think that we are not spending... We're not putting enough money in the budget for the maintnence of our facilities and our streets."
Mr. Stanley is running for the seat now held by Todd Klein.
However Klein is not running for re-election -- but instead will take a break from politics

Mayor Glen Robertson is up for re-election. Also up for re-election are Councilman - District 1, Victor Hernandez; and Councilwoman - District 5 Karen Gibson. All three have voiced an interest in re-election.

"Well I'll tell you straight out, I don't have all the answers to this. All I know is we need to start dealing with it."

The first official day for a candidate to sign up for the May 10, 2014 municipal election is January 29. The last day to file is February 28. Candidates may pick up paperwork from the office of City Secretary starting on January 6.
