They say that football is just a game, especially when it is just a game. Bonded as brothers on the real football field, when the Red Raiders take to Madden on the Xbox, it’s a whole new ballgame.
We talked to several teammates who could not seem to agree on who was the best when it came to playing Madden, Davis Webb was as close to a consensus as we could get.
“Madden 25, I’m the best on the team,” Webb said. “Ask Kenny and Brad about that."
Both Kenny Williams and Bradley Marquez live with Webb and Marquez tends to agree with his roommate.
"Yeah, he is the best at Madden, hands down,” Marquez said.
Webb’s head coach has never seen his quarterback with a controller in his hands but he certainly hears the trash talk.
“He always tells them how he's a coach, and a professor, that knows the plays inside and out, and it's not fair,” Kliff said. “I guess he's pretty good, I've never seen him play."
But Webb’s back-field mate DeAndre Washington is not so sure about that, when asked who he thought they were the best, but wasn’t that great, he pointed Webb’s direction.
"Probably Davis Webb,” he said. “He swears he's uh- you know, the Madden guru. He feel like he's the offensive coordinator while he's playing the game. Just to, you know, put up 50 points on him, I mean, it's all fun."
It also turns out that one of the biggest trash talkers on the field, Pete Robertson, carries it over to the Xbox according to sophomore receiver Reginald Davis.
“I say D.J. Polite Bray, cause Pete, he sorry, I always beat him,” Davis said. “Pete talk a lot of trash, but he always lose."
While it’s all fun and games on the Xbox, once this team hits the field, they are after one common goal, being led by Davis Webb.
"I'm really excited about how this group,” Webb said. “This team has really worked their butts off. I've never really been around a group of guys [like these] who really bought into a system and really went all in."
The Red Raiders open up the season on August 30th against Central Arkansas.
