This is not the same 'ole Lubbock High football team. In year four under Head Coach Jason Strunk, the Westerners are feeling good about their chances, trying to make the playoffs for the second time in three years after snapping a 37 year drought in 2012.

"Overall I think, anywhere I've been, any state, any place, any level college included, this has been the best summer of camp I've ever been a part of," Strunk said.

"I feel like this is one of the best Lubbock High teams ever, we're clicking on every level, everybody looks like they are playing good. The chemistry is there, it's a good team," senior defensive back Kristian Johnson said.

The offense has some great skill players back to kick Strunk's high octane offense into high gear.

"Tempo is going to be, we call it our neutralizer,” Strunk said. “We try to out distance people, out condition them, whatever you want to call it. It's all about tempo, and the kids have bought into it, the conditioning is great. We want to keep building on that, and use conditioning as our advantage."

"We want the defense to fear us, because of our speed,” senior quarterback James Garcia said. “We want them to know that we are here to win, we're here to play, we're here to run, and we are not going to get tired doing it."

This team, that had plenty of adversity in 2013, will be better prepared this year with a new rallying cry FIO, which stands for "Figure it Out".

"They've got to figure it out, and it just turned into, hey let's just call this FIO, figure it out, and then it turned into t-shirts, it turned into signs in the locker room and when in doubt you need to figure it out," Strunk said.

"You know the coaches aren't going to be on the field with us,” defensive lineman Tommy Najera said. “You know while we are playing so if there is something wrong or something that we need to figure out, we just need to figure it out."

"That's not good enough for us, we want a district championship, so we're going to go out there,” Garcia said, “and we don't really care who we go up against, we're going to go out there and give it our all."
