LUBBOCK, Texas (March 19, 2014) – Lubbock Christian University has received their first ever national Top-25 ranking as a member of the Heartland Conference and it comes in baseball. The Chaparrals are ranked No.14 in the latest rankings released by D2BaseballNews.com.
There are four different polls that conduct rankings for NCAA Div. II baseball, but not every poll recognizes programs that are transitioning to full NCAA Div. II status (LCU is currently in year-two candidacy and are full members of the NCAA Div. II’s Heartland Conference). The Chaps baseball program enters the top-25 for the first time and receives the No.14 ranking for their debut in the D2BaseballNews.com poll. They are also receiving votes (No.27) in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association poll.
The Chaps are amidst an eight-game win streak and they have won seven straight in conference play. LCU is 17-7 overall and has a conference best 11-1 record in conference play. The Chaps eight-game win streak is tied for the second longest active win streak behind Tampa’s 17-game win streak. LCU is 5-1 this season against ranked opponents and 3-0 against top-10 foes.
LCU takes all their streaks, including a five-game road win streak, to Abilene, Texas Friday. They open a doubleheader and a Heartland Conference series at 3 p.m. against McMurry University.
